Marsaxlokk have joined the race for the services of Sliema international midfielder David Camilleri. Club president Victor Sciriha yesterday confirmed to The Times that they have officially approached the Wanderers for Camilleri's services and are awaiting a reply from Sliema president Robert Arrigo.
Marsaxlokk, currently sixth in the Premiership standings, face stiff competition to clinch the 28-year-old midfielder's signature as several other clubs are also keen on Camilleri.
Birkirkara and Pietà Hotspurs have enquired about Camilleri's availability while Floriana are also believed to be closely monitoring proceedings with a view to initiating negotiations for the player.
Arrigo, the Sliema supremo, confirmed that there is interest from several clubs in Camilleri but no official discussions have taken place so far.
Camilleri is not the only transfer target for Marsaxlokk. Sciriha confirmed that former Sliema Wanderers striker Edoardo Do Nascimento, 'Bizu', has already been offered a contract and the Brazilian, who has also had preliminary talks with Birkirkara, is expected to inform the Marsaxlokk boss of his decision at a meeting this afternoon.
If Bizu accepts Marsaxlokk's offer he will be replacing Nigerian Benneth Njoku, who is expected to be released in the coming days. The southerners have also been engaged in talks with Club Africain who are believed to be interested in Nigerian striker Uwa Ogbodo. Last month, Ogbodo, who joined Marsaxlokk this season, had a short trial with the Tunisian club.
Meanwhile, Birkirkara were yesterday expecting the arrival of Bojan Arsic. The 27-year-old Yugoslav striker is expected to start a trial with the Stripes with a view of filling one of the berths left void by foreign duo Sunday Eboh and Jaroslav Marx. A midfielder from Ghana is also expected to start a trial with Birkirkara soon.
Eboh is sidelined for a long period after suffering a cruciate ligament injury while Marx's services have not been retained.
Birkirkara are expected to register Arsic in time for him to play against Mosta tomorrow at the Centenary Stadium.
