Massimo Cremona Malta Masters champion
Team selected for World Cup
All six local players classified inside the top 100 in the world rankings recently took part in the first Malta Masters tournament, organised by the Malta Table Football Sports Association.
The Masters was a perfect pre-paration for the players who this month represent Malta at the World Cup in Bologna, Italy.
The contestants were Malta champion Joseph Mifsud, no.23 in the world list, Malta Open winner Charles Aquilina, Hansel Mallia, winner of the 2004 Dublin Open, Massimo Cremona, Stefan Pace and Joseph Borg Bonaci.
Aquilina and Cremona reached the final after eliminating Mifsud and Borg Bonaci in the semi-finals. The final was a tight match that finished 2-1 for Cremona.
Mifsud, Aquilina, Mallia and Cremona will play in the Open category in Bologna. They will be joined by Samuel Bartolo in the Under-19, Timothy Spiteri in the Under-15 and new association president Mario Spiteri who plays in the veterans.
Bartolo reached the U-15 World Cup final in 2001. He was a quarter-finalist in the U-19 World Cup last year besides helping the national U-19 team become world champions in the category.
