I cannot believe that while the individual mentioned in the article Man Who Damaged Crucifix Placed Under Probation (November 30) had been drinking in a bar, drove his car and was involved in an accident, the reporter, the police and the court concentrated more on the damage done to a crucifix and a sergeant's pen.

I am sure that someone somewhere could have donated a crucifix to the Mosta police station to replace the damaged one so that the officers there would carry on upholding the law with their faith in hand.

With regard to the damage to a rather important sergeant's pen, I would like to donate a biro in perfect working order so he may carry on with his duties without further ado.

Most of us would be more concerned about whether the sergeant administered a breathalyser test to the individual, or asked for a urine sample, and about whether, if these proved positive, the individual was prosecuted and convicted. I do feel that the public would have more respect for our legal system if they could be reassured that they are being protected by the police dealing with this type of traffic offence in the severe manner it deserves.

Doesn't the Bible state somewhere that this man will one day be answerable to God himself, at least regarding the crucifix, and answerable to our justice system in the interest of the public when it involves public safety?
