The Nationalist Party's College of Councillors has condemned what it claims was the use of public funds by Tarxien mayor Paul Farrugia to promote a Labour Party activity.

The college said the mayor used council funds and a council publication to advertise the MLP's congress on local councils held in October.

Mr Farrugia said when contacted he had a duty to inform residents of his contribution to the congress. "Residents should know what I am trying to promote in meetings and it is my duty to tell them."

The college said this was not the first time that a Labour mayor chose to use a council publication which was sent to all residents to promote this partisan congress.
