The son of a Nationalist Party mayor was this morning given a two year jail term suspended for four after pleading guilty to asking for commission over a waste collection tender

Noel Agius, 32, is the son of San Gwann mayor Joseph Agius.

Prosecutor Angelo Gafa told the court Mr Agius has approached three of four tenderers, including the one who won the tender.

However, the winner did not get the tender because money changed hands but because he was the only tenderer who fulfilled all the requisites.

The defence and prosecution agreed that Mr Agius should be given the maximum suspended sentence possible.
