Italy's Luca Mazzanti won the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia yesterday after Paolo Bettini was disqualified from first place for dangerous riding.

Bettini, the overall leader, blocked Australia's Baden Cooke in the final 100 metres of the stage and Cooke crashed into the roadside barriers.

Mazzanti was second over the line behind Bettini and was awarded the stage victory.
