The 2005 Mediterranean Games wrapped up last night when the closing ceremony was held in Almeria, Spain.

The last gold medal of the Games was won by Spain who beat Turkey 1-0 in the football tournament final.

Italy finished top of the medals table with 57 gold, 40 silver and 56 bronze. France (56-51-46) were second ahead of Spain (45-59-48) who placed third.

Malta won one bronze medal in Almeria thanks to William Chetcuti's third spot in the Double Trap competition. The next edition of the Med. Games will be held in Pescara in 2009.
