I take exception at Labour MP Anglu Farrugia's fatuous comments in parliament (December 5) that "mediators with dubious qualifications would be taking over the powers of the courts and the lawyers".

For Dr Farrugia's information, I and my colleagues went through a gruelling 160 hour course in family mediation for marital separation to achieve the status of Associate Practitioner of the Mediators' Institute Ireland.

Our trainer was one of the main mediators in the Northern Ireland peace process and is recognised as one of the leading mediators in Europe.

Dr Farrugia should get his facts right before shooting his mouth off.
