Leaders Hibs Medsea maintained their unbeaten record in the Women's League after beating nearest rivals Ergon Project Luxol in their latest outing. MacDonald's Depiro are now second in the standings following their victory over Honey Athleta.

In the match of the weekend, Hibs held off Luxol's challenge to chalk up their eighth successive victory.

Hibs did it without coach Mario Tabone who is currently serving a three-match ban. Luxol had forward Francesca Psaila Savona missing through injury but the towering Lara Chetcuti was back in the squad.

No team succeeded in imposing any kind of superiority in the opening two quarters but it was Luxol who changed ends 25-22 ahead. It was towards the end of the third quarter that Hibs hit a fine patch to start the last quarter in front - 32-29.

As happened in previous direct clashes with Medsea, Luxol wilted under the pressure, allowing the champions to extend their lead and going on to win 48-37.

Depiro were never troubled by Athleta as Sarah Pace and Rachael Camilleri led the team to a 20-8 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Depiro continued to dictate matters and after changing ends 40-16 ahead they cantered on for a 83-53 win.

St James obtained their third victory in the league but found strong resistance from Stunners who only trailed 21-23 at half-time.

A 12-2 run in the opening minutes of the third quarter paved the way for St James. Stunners tried to get back but St James won 43-34.

Standings: Hibs 16 (8-0), Depiro 14 (6-2), Luxol 13 (5-3), St James 11 (3-5), Athleta 10 (2-6), Stunners 8 (0-8).
