Division One club Melita FC have extended their sponsorship deal with Attard & Co. (Foodstuffs) Ltd for a further three years.

Under the newly-signed agreement, Saclà have become Melita's official sponsors and the Italian food brand's logo is featured prominently on the team's shirts.

The contract was signed earlier this year by Melita FC president Paul Zammit and Pierre Pellegrini Petit, managing director of Attard & Co., at the company's offices in Marsa. The sponsorship will run from January 2010 to December 2012.

Club president Zammit said in a statement that the continued support of Attard & Co. Ltd reflects their confidence in the direction Melita have taken, particularly in light of the first team's promotion to Division One at the end of last season.

Zammit remarked that Melita's senior and Under-19 squads are made up predominantly of homegrown nursery boys and this is testament to the belief that Melita, the only club in Malta with an amateur status, not only can produce valid players but can also aspire to compete in the upper reaches of Maltese football.

Six Melita players currently form part of the Malta U-21 and U-19 squads, Zammit added.

For his part, Pellegrini Petit expressed his satisfaction at his company's partnership with Melita FC. He augured that Melita will slowly, but surely, find their place in the top tier of Maltese football in the near future.

Melita look well on course to keep their Division One status this season as they are fourth in the table with 16 points.
