Melita Mobile said today it will launch its mobile telephony service in February after a €40m investment. It is already receiving bookings from customers wishing to book their preferred number.

“Melita Mobile is offering cheaper call rates in a simple and transparent price structure. Melita Mobile will eliminate expensive monthly mobile bills and complicated tariffs, making it simple for customers to understand what they are paying for and to make use of the service,” the company said.

“Our mobile network employs the latest 3G technology and will provide full nationwide coverage from day one. We have invested €40 million to build a fully-fledged 3G mobile network using the latest technology. We are not an MVNO and our promise to be cheaper is a long-term commitment, not just a limited-time offer. We are here to stay” said Stephen Wright, Melita’s Chief Operations Officer.

The company added that it has embarked on a programme to open new outlets in several towns and villages. The first new outlet has opened at GS Supermarket in Naxxar and another outlet will open shortly in Msida, next to the University roundabout. The outlets at The Embassy in Valletta and in Arkadia Gozo will continue to offer all Melita services and products, including mobile-related services.

It has also employed 100 new employees in preparation for mobile services. Melita Mobile numbers will start with the 77 prefix.
