Melitensia donations on display at Il-Ħaġar

Gozo Philatelic Society exhibits on show until mid-March

The Gozo Philatelic Society has set up a new display in its section at Il-Ħaġar museum in Victoria.

The outstanding exhibition consists of Melitensia donations received from Germany.

Items from the Juncker Collection include personalised handstamps used from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries, through which the delivering postman could be identified.

The covers were chosen for their variety, showing assorted circumstances of both sender and addressee.

Backs and fronts are displayed to offer sufficient details to the examiner. The display is on until mid-March.

In the years since its foundation, the GPS has acquired a substantial collection of material which is available for inspection by its members at its offices, usually Saturday mornings or by appointment.

Prizes were also recently distributed to those who took part in the society’s most recent exhibition.

The George Vella Trophy for Best Exhibit went to Jesmond Borg, who also received a special publication from MaltaPost.

The new GPS committee, headed by Anthony Grech, continues with its active programme, including educational visits to schools.
