The main roadworks just outside Selmun in Mellieha were completed more than two months ago. The bus shelter in front of the Belleview Hall has been pulled down in the first phase of the works on the main road. Now we are still waiting for the new bus shelter.
Many schoolchildren and other people, including tourists from Selmun Palace Hotel, use this bus stop very often, if not every day, and they have no shelter from the sun, cold or rain.
When contacted, the mayor of Mellieha informed us that all the necessary papers and even the bus shelters themselves were ready. As usual, they are waiting for the permit from the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.
In the first place, can anyone please enlighten us, why does the local council have to get a full application for a bus shelter? Secondly, why does the council have to apply again when there was already a bus shelter before, and even the Works Department applied for it? Thirdly, what is the PA waiting for to issue the permit?
Without this bus shelter there is a dangerous three to four feet drop from the pavement to the street below.
Monstrous buildings in the heart of Mellieha that ruined the views of our village mushroomed in no time. Even concessions for a swimming pool right in the middle of a valley have been granted.
