The Association of General Retailers and Traders said that economically and commercially, the indications were that EU membership was a "valid and positive choice" for business and the self-employed.

This declaration was the result of a unanimous decision taken at a meeting of the GRTU's executive council yesterday.

The GRTU said the EU question was, however, not simply of an economic and commercial nature. It therefore urged each member to make a judgment on all aspects of membership.
