The Richmond Foundation, which works in the field of mental health, yesterday acknowledged the valuable contribution given by its volunteers as it marked International Volunteer Day.
The foundation said volunteer activities currently included work in the areas of housing, befriending, leisure, mental health promotion, clerical and administrative work and fundraising.
Volunteering is done on a part-time basis depending on the needs of those experiencing mental health problems, the foundation's priorities and the interests of volunteers.
Volunteering, said the foundation is a meaningful positive input in society as well as holding benefits for the individual volunteers such as in the development of new skills and providing new experiences.
The foundation took the occasion to thank its volunteers who gave their time freely throughout the year, in turn giving people who used its services an opportunity for a better quality of life.
It also thanked the hundreds of other volunteers who worked in the different sectors of society. By giving their time they were helping to make the world a better place through their dedicated work.
