Labour MEP John Attard Montalto filed a libel suit against Nationalist MEP Simon Busuttil and Net Television editor Louiselle Vassallo claiming that comments aired on Tuesday's evening news were libellous and defamatory.

Dr Attard Montalto filed the suit in the Magistrates' Courts after a statement made by Dr Busuttil, aired with the approval of Ms Vassallo.

In the statement Dr Busuttil said Dr Attard Montalto had voted against workers' interests. This, Dr Attard Montalto argued, was libellous and defamatory and contained false information. He held Dr Busuttil and Ms Vassallo liable in damages as liquidated by the court.
