The Malta Environment and Planning Authority has appointed Godwin Cassar its first director general.
The move is part of the restructuring exercise undertaken by MEPA following the merger of the Planning Authority and the Environment Protection Department in March.
Dr Cassar has been the director of planning since the setting up of the authority.
He was a co-project leader in the preparation of the first Structure Plan for Malta and all the ancillary studies leading to the adoption of the new planning process, after having established the Planning Services Division within the then Ministry of Infrastructure.
Concurrently he had also set up a new mapping function and created training and development opportunities for staff in a range of planning and environmental protection topics.
