Direct enforcement action by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority on illegal rooms at Ras il-Wied in the limits of Wardija this morning had to stop mid-way when the officials were presented with a warrant of prohibitory injunction.
A spokesman for the authority said there were several applications relating to the rooms, including one to sanction and convert them to stables. The case dates back to 2005.
But when officials from the Enforcement Department went to visit, they found that, rather than stables, the rooms also included a kitchenette and a bathroom. The application to sanction and the following appeal were refused.
Mepa officers embarked on direct action this morning but had to stop as soon as the provisionally upheld warrant was presented.
The rooms are situated on the slopes of ecologiclaly sensitive Wied Qannotta.
