The Malta Environment and Planning Authority determined 641 applications last month and received 742 new applications. The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,205.

Last month, Mepa processed 96 notifications of development, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2001, do not require a formal application.

In the same month, 98 stop and enforcement notices were issued, 70 in Malta and 28 in Gozo.

Also last month, 128 enforcement cases were closed, 74 in Gozo and 54 in Malta. Of these, 86 enforcement cases were sanctioned through a sanctionable permit. Another 32 cases were resolved since the owners decided to remove illegal constructions following enforcement action and nine cases were withdrawn by Mepa.

The Complaints Office received 38 cases that were resolved without the need of issuing an enforcement notice as owners complied with instructions given by Mepa enforcement officers.

Last month Mepa carried out three direct action operations.
