Mepa this afternoon put off a decision about the relocation of the Munchies Kiosk from the middle of Golden Bay to an area beneath the car park.

The postponement was given to allow the architects representing Munchies and a neighbouring kiosk to discuss the plans.

The owners of the neighbouring kiosk are protesting that the stairs leading from the beach to the new Munchies location would encroach on their property.

Munchies was ordered to move last year because it was not covered by the necessary permits and its location in the middle of a sand dune was preventing Golden Bay from being granted Blue Flag status.

Munchies restaurant owner Ian Micallef said in August that the process for acquiring permits and relocating has been ongoing for more than a decade. Meanwhile, he has been paying rent to the government for the use of the site since 1987 and his catering establishment licence has been renewed yearly by the Malta Tourism Authority.
