Lawrence Gonzi has promised that if elected to power, he will take direct responsibility for reform at the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa). I do not think that it will make much of a difference, unless Dr Gonzi wants to imply that none of his ministers will be capable of reforming Mepa.

Political interference is the major trouble with Mepa and I seriously doubt that Dr Gonzi can make much of a difference. As long as the major political parties continue being financed by the building industry, no reform is possible.
