Malta has received a grant from the Merck Institute for Aging and Health, Washington DC, for the 2003 and 2004 training programmes which are held on the island.

The money supports the educational activities of eight fellows from developing countries attending short-term programmes.

It also supports two diplomats taking part in the nine-month postgraduate diploma course in gerontology and geriatrics at the European Centre for Gerontology, University of Malta.

The Merck institute is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the health and independence of older people around the world, by communicating health information.
