Health ministry urges public to stay out of the sun

Feel-like temperatures are forecast to soar to 42°C on Saturday, prompting the Met Office to issue an orange weather warning.

The MIA Met Office has forecast 'feel-like temperatures' of 40°C and 39°C  for Thursday and Friday, rising to a scorching 42°C  on Saturday, and 40°C  on Sunday before easing to 37°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Another forecast earlier this week had forecast a maximum real feel temperature of 40°C by Sunday.

A yellow "Be Aware" warning was in place on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Health urged people to "keep cool", "stay out of the sun", and "drink water".

A Met Office spokesperson told Times of Malta earlier this week that the "feel like" temperatures are particularly high because Malta is experiencing very dry weather with very low humidity.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Malta was 43.8°C on August 9, 1999, during a heatwave.
