The Met Office has warned that the westerly wind is expected to reach gale force 8 to severe gale force 9 tonight.

A spokesman for the office contacted by timesofmalta.com said that the peak is expected at around 10 p.m. By early morning the wind will veer northwest and decrease to rather strong to strong. Severe gale force wind is unusual.

The Met Office said a deepening depression over Sardenia will move steadily towards the Ionian Sea. The weather will be mainly cloudy with showers which may be thundery at times. The sea will be very rough.
