MFA file police report over missing €16,000 from Match Operations Department

Individual suspended for breach of internal policies but governing body not certain a criminal offence was committed

The Malta Football Association has filed a police report over the disappearance of €16,000 from the Match Day Operations Department and has suspended an individual for a breach of internal policies.

The Times of Malta last month reported that the local governing body of football had launched an internal investigation after €16,000 went missing and a report was filed to the MFA’s Bureau.

In a statement published on Thursday, the MFA said that the inquiry into possible financial discrepancies has now been concluded and was discussed during the MFA Executive Board who were informed that the cause of the ‘discrepancy’ was not established.

“The Malta FA refers to its communication of the 4th November 2025, in which it announced the appointment of an internal inquiry into possible financial discrepancies flagged by its Finance Department,” the statement said.

“The inquiry has since been concluded, and its report was presented to the association’s officials, who subsequently resolved, amongst other things, to refer it to the MFA Executive Board.

“The report confirmed the existence of a financial discrepancy amounting to approximately €16,000, although it did not establish the precise cause of this discrepancy.
