The concerns of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association regarding poor tourism last year and the prospects for this year were discussed in a meeting between the association and the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono.

The MHRA delegation led by Josef Formosa Gauci, expressed its concern over the air link between the two islands.

Mr Formosa Gauci insisted that a study needed to be carried out to ensure that a feasible and sustainable air link between the two islands is decided upon and implemented in the shortest time possible.

The Times broke the news on Tuesday that a seaplane would be operating the service starting in May.

Mr Formosa Gauci assured the minister that the MHRA will continue to lobby with the Malta Tourism Authority to ensure that the authority gives Gozo the importance it deserves.

He stressed the need to ensure that works at the sea passenger terminals at both Mgarr and Cirkewwa are speeded up to minimise the inconvenience to both locals and visitors making the crossing between the two islands.

It was important to have mooring facilities at more than one location for cruise liners to stop and offer passengers a visit to Gozo's places of interest, he added.
