The General Workers Union and J.F. Security last night reached an agreement on new employment conditions for security guards at Malta International Airport.

A statement issued by the GWU said that agreement was reached following intensive talks between the GWU and the management of J.F. Security led by the director of Industrial Relations and Employment, Mr Frank Pullicino.

The GWU had warned the company that all security guards at MIA would be ordered to strike indefinitely if an agreement was not reached yesterday.

In its proposals the GWU asked for all MIA security guards to be employed on a full-time basis according to the Wage Regulation Order for Wardens and Security Guards (2000) or for the part-timers to be offered better conditions.

The GWU said that J.F. Security last night agreed to offer full-time employment to its MIA security guards starting from November 1. The company also accepted to adhere to the Wardens and Security Guards Wage Regulation Order by January 1.
