Malta International Airport is sponsoring the press cartoons category of the Malta Journalism Awards organised by The Malta Press Club.

There are two finalists from a field of six press cartoonists - Maurice Tanti Burlò from The Sunday Times and James Sciberras from media.link.

TMPC chairman Malcolm J. Naudi said the Malta Journalism Awards' objective was to recognise significant contributions to professional journalism by Maltese journalists.

The presentation of the awards will be held at the Audiovision Centre, in Hamrun on Monday at 7.30 p.m.

For this edition, the judging panel has selected 21 finalists in seven categories.

TMPC was set up in 1989 and has achieved a number of firsts for Maltese journalists and for Maltese society as a whole. Mr Naudi said these included a code of ethics, the setting up of the Press Ethics Commission and the introduction of source confidentiality in Maltese law, to mention just three salient milestones.

MIA chief executive officer Peter R. Bolech said the sponsorship of the press cartoons category was a clear sign of encouragement and of unequivocal support by MIA as a corporate citizen to TMPC's efforts.
