Maria Mifsud Bonnici, currently furthering her studies in the UK, had an impressive result recently in her preparations for Sunday's national championships.

The Malta champion placed first in her category and second overall in an aquathlon (swim and run) organised by TriEsporta Crawley Triathlon Club.

The race, at the TriEsporta Club, consisted of a 400m swim in an indoor 25m pool and a 5km run at the adjacent West Green Park.

Mifsud Bonnici registered a 5:57 for her swim.

After a relatively long transition, due to safety precautions, Mifsud Bonnici set a very fast pace in the run to claim the honours.

Her overall time of 27:033 placed her first female and second overall, a significant result considering the quality of her opponents and the proximity of the national championships.

Mifsud Bonnici will be in Malta specifically to defend the national title she has been winning consistently for the past years.
