Milan have finally signed Italy defender Massimo Oddo from Lazio, Milan announced yesterday.

The 30-year-old, who was part of Italy's World Cup-winning squad in Germany last year, was sold in a deal worth 7.75 million euros plus the permanent transfer of loaned Milan midfielder Pasquale Foggia to Lazio.

The move represents a return to his origins for Oddo, who was a product of Milan's youth development scheme before leaving to work his way through the lower divisions of Italian football with Monza, Prato, Lecco and Napoli.

He made his Serie A debut in 2000 for Verona and has been a fixture of Lazio's starting line-up since arriving at the club in 2002.

At Milan, Oddo will compete for a starting place as right-back with former Brazil captain Cafu.

He could make his debut as early as tomorrow, when Milan host Roma in the first leg of their Italian Cup semi-final.
