A new video threatening holy war against Spain if it does not withdraw troops from Muslim lands was a Good Friday reminder for this Catholic country of centuries of religious tension.
Police say militants who blew themselves up last Saturday had planned more attacks in Holy Week leading up to Easter, and between one and three suspects may have escaped the raid.
Police and troops have been deployed around the country at key installations and possible targets to avert new attacks.
"We're not resting easy, there could be another one," an Interior Ministry official said. Spain's Moroccan community is under close scrutiny since the March 11 train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people in the first major al Qaeda linked attack in the West since September 11, 2001. Many of the key suspects are Moroccans.
Morocco is but a short hop across the straits - a journey thousands of clandestine would-be immigrants attempt each year.
Police found the new video on Thursday in the rubble of a building blown up by seven of the Madrid bomb suspects last weekend. In the video, armed and masked men threatened war unless Spain withdraws troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
