Milk prices rise as Malta Dairy Products cites higher costs
Producer explains the reason for its 'price adjustments'
Malta Dairy Products Ltd has raised the prices of several Benna milk products "to ensure the long-term sustainability and reliability of Malta’s fresh milk supply."
The biggest increase is in the price of whole milk (1000ml), which is up by 7c. A one-litre packet of that milk will now retail for €1.30.
It said in a statement that the fresh dairy sector continues to operate under significant cost pressures, despite the government’s ongoing support in keeping national energy prices stable and subsidy on feed costs.

The new prices announced by Malta Dairy Products.MDP said the revised prices were made necessary by higher animal-feed costs, increased ingredient, packaging, and transport costs and ongoing investment in quality and reliability.
It said that it absorbed a substantial portion of the rising costs last year but the price adjustments were necessary to maintain a stable and sustainable sector moving forward.
MDP has been gradually raising its prices over the past years, citing rising costs, supply chain issues and even the need to finance a new factory for milk production. In 2018 a one-litre packet of whole milk retailed for 86c.
