Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's war crimes trial was suspended for a month yesterday with dozens of defence witnesses rallying around his opposition to court-appointed lawyers running the defence.
Judges at the UN war crimes tribunal suspended the trial until October 12 to allow court-assigned lawyers more time to prepare the defence case after hearing that some of Milosevic's witnesses were refusing to testify in the long and complex case.
Milosevic defended himself for the first two-and-a-half years of the trial but delays due to his heart condition and high blood pressure prompted judges earlier this month to compel him to accept lawyers to run his defence.
