Andy Bocchi, the UK & European Regional Account Manager for Pearson Education, was recently in Malta to meet with Council Members of the Malta Institute of Management, now that the Institute has been confirmed as an approved distributor for Edinburgh Business School, the Graduate School of Business of Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.

Pearson Education is a major academic publisher and part of the international Pearson Group plc. It provides Edinburgh Business School with services to support its MBA programme. During his visit, Mr Bocchi also had meetings with the newly appointed Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Frans Borg, to introduce to him Edinburgh Business School and the possibilities that are now available to Maltese students wishing to read for higher management qualifications at Certificate, Diploma or even MBA level.

Edinburgh Business School's MBA programme is a long-established and highly successful programme and in 2003 the distance-learning route was ranked the second largest in the world. The programme is based on the principle that individuals learn in different ways.

In order to make it possible for students to achieve the MBA, who did not wish to or could not, attend campus, the self-study course texts were developed containing the learning resources necessary to succeed.

Today, the course texts are augmented with course Websites and the support of Edinburgh Business School's faculty through individual subjects' Websites.

The programmes offered by Edinburgh Business School offer complete flexibility for anybody who believes that he/she has the intellect-ual energy and the commitment to follow these programmes.

"It is never too late to consolidate work experience with formal qualifications, especially in these days," Mr Bocchi said. In fact, with the Edinburgh Business School's MBA programme, one can choose for himself the subjects with which to start studying and the rate with which to complete the programme.

Fees are paid as the course proceeds, thus lowering the financial burden and entry criteria make it possible for non-graduates to commence their MBA programme. The MIM has for a long time been a firm believer in lifelong education and, via this arrangement, students can keep full-time employment while studying for internationally acc-laimed management qualifications from highly respected academic institutions such as Edinburgh Business School.

Mr Bocchi also took the opportunity to oversee the process used at the MIM for students to enrol on the MBA programme and to meet with the sales and marketing executives at the institute.
