Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt has confirmed that the by-pass road to Marsascala is to be rebuilt.

He said in Parliament that procedures are under way for the signing of a contract of works. This will be followed by talks on coordination between the various stakeholders so that the works can start.

The rebuilding of this road, which links Zabbar to Marsascala, was promised before the last general election. The poor condition of the road was one of the biggest sources of complaint following the recent rains.

Sources could not confirm when the works would start but said works on preparing nearby roads for traffic re-routing is expected to start in the near future.

Meanwhile, contractors engaged by the ADT are continuing their emergency road repairs programme, today tackling another major source of complaint - Sliema Road in San Gwann (see video).

Over the past days works were carried out on a number of roads including the Zabbar-Bulebel link, Hompesch Road, Zabbar, the Mosta-Lija road and parts of Constitution Avenue, Mosta.
