Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech this morning inspected final preparations for this evening’s Song for Europe festival and had a meeting with Natalie Gauci, the Maltese-Australian who will be the guest singer at the end of the show.
He congratulated her for winning the widely-followed Australian Idol contest in Australia last November and on her on her first single, Here I Am, which soared to second place in the Australian singles chart in three days. He said the 26-year-old had made Malta and Maltese-Australians proud.
The minister praised the Malta Song for Europe organisers and observed that the Eurovision Song Contest will take on a new format this year, with all countries taking part in the semi-finals except host country Serbia and the ‘big five – Spain, Britain, Germany, France and the UK, which automatically qualify for the finals. Both festivals were an important gateway for Maltese singers, he said.
Natalie Gauci will this evening perform some of her songs and also join Chiara in singing ‘Angel.’
timesofmalta.com was involved in arrangements for her to come to Malta, along with the MaltaSong Board, Vivaldi Hotel, the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund and Emirates Airlines.
