Education Minister Dolores Cristina this morning launched a consultation document on a national policy and strategy for the attainment of core competences in primary education.
She said that children were being lost along the way because they did not achieve the core competences of bilingual literacy, eLiteracy and numeracy. The new document identified the yardsticks which needed to be achieved, evaluation procedures and the assistance which needed to be given to pupils found to be in difficulty.
Grace Grima, director-general in the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education, outlined the document in a meeting for heads of schools and teachers, and said the strategy included a clear parental involvement agenda.
Teachers, she said were being asked to give their feedback on the strategy by June.
The document is to be available later today at www.education.gov.mt
