The Transport Ministry said this evening that it would not interfere on the location and the speed limits set by speed cameras, insisting that is the competence of the ADT’s technical staff.

The ministry was reacting to a statement by the GRTU which complained about the number of cameras being installed and insisted that the speed limits that are being imposed are too low.

The ministry said the GRTU was mistaken to appeal to it to raise the speed limits because the ministry did not interfere in such decisions.

Its only directive to the ADT in this regard was to make the roads safer. If slower speeds and speed cameras were effective in this regard, the ministry could not take decisions which raised he level of danger.
