Former Prime Minister and long-time Labour leader Dom Mintoff, 93, visited Labour headquarters at Hamrun yesterday evening, the first time he did so.

He was greeted and shown around by Labour leader Joseph Muscat.

The headquarters was built under the leadership of Alfred Sant, with whom Mr Mintoff did not have good relations, and inaugurated 14 years ago.

Mintoff was Labour leader from 1949 following the split from former leader Paul Boffa, to 1984, when he handed over to Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici. He was an MP for 50 years.

Dr Muscat had called on Mr Mintoff at his residence last year, soon after being elected Labour leader.
