Miriam Sorrell's new exhibition explores a sacred connection
Saints & Trees will run throughout December
Gozo-based artist Miriam Sorrell new exhibition explores the sacred connection between spirit and nature.
Saints & Trees, a deeply evocative exhibition opens on December 1 at the Citadel Cultural Centre in Victoria.
It will run throughout December, inviting visitors to enter a world where the Divine and the natural coexist in harmony and radiant colour.
Saints & Trees runs throughout December.Sorrell’s mixed-media works bring together iconic figures such as the Madonna Ta’ Pinu and imagined saints of ancient memory, each accompanied by trees that act as their earthly counterparts: rooted, enduring, and life-giving.
“My tree and landscape paintings are how I ideally envisage a green Malta and Gozo, islands abundant with trees, grace, and tranquillity,” says Sorrell.
The paintings are notably vivid and richly coloured, as if to exaggerate what we are now missing in Malta and Gozo.
Through their vibrancy, Sorrell seeks to reawaken collective memory and longing for a greener, more reverent way of life.
With each canvas, Sorrell calls attention to the deep spiritual resonance of the natural world, portraying trees not only as symbols of endurance and renewal, but as companions to the saints in a timeless dialogue between Heaven and Earth.
Born in London and based in Gozo, Sorrell is also known internationally as the creator of Mouthwatering Vegan, the award-winning blog and cookbook that helped popularise gourmet vegan cuisine worldwide.
The paintings reflect the way the artist envisages a green Malta and Gozo.
