A stray Tomcat, who is cared for by a family in Vittoriosa, disappeared for three weeks and returned a few days ago with a broken jaw and a gaping wound on his face.

The family, though happy about the cat's return were distressed to see him in that state and immediately contacted the Foundation of St Francis for the Animals who, in turn, rushed it to a vet for treatment.

The cat's wound was infested with maggots, but after treatment he is now on the mend. However, the cat has to go back to surgery for its broken jaw.

A foundation spokesman pointed out that all too often in cases like these the cat would have been put down unnecessarily.

Anyone who wishes to help the foundation can send a donation to its bank account: HSBC bank, account number 040030272050.
