Opposition MP Noel Farrugia yesterday called for an inquiry into the government's choice of consortium to carry out a general embellishment of the country.
Mr Farrugia claimed the government had not chosen the cheapest or most favourable offer. The government would be giving half a million liri to this consortium when another had offered better conditions for about Lm120,000.
He said proof of this was corresondence received by the head of the civil service, J.R Grima, in which it clearly emerged that the offer of the consortium which was to be given the job was inferior to that of the second-placed consortium.
Mr Farrugia also accused the government of failing to say which public gardens would be passed on to the selected consortium.
