Labour leader Alfred Sant said the party did not only wish but was committed to remain in contact with the Maltese community in Australia.
Speaking during a visit to a number of businesses in Sydney, Dr Sant said one should see how the success achieved by Maltese people in Australia could benefit the Maltese people, both those living in Australia and also those in Malta.
Accompanied by deputy leader Michael Falzon, Dr Sant visited Zyloteck Pty Ltd, which specialises in electronic equipment, especially for security and surveillance purposes. A new system which has just been developed by the company surveys a country's territorial waters.
Dr Sant and Dr Falzon also visited Hydro-Produce which supplies agricultural products around Australia. Its owner hails from Gozo.
The Labour leaders also visited one of the distribution depots of Woolworths' agricultural products, which supplies more than 720 shops around Australia.
Dr Sant and Dr Falzon were welcomed by Attorney General Michael Atkinson and members of the Maltese community at Parliament House in Adelaide on Tuesday. About 200 members of the Maltese community were present.
