The closing down of Malta's embassies in Hungary and Sweden was described by Labour foreign affairs spokesman Leo Brincat as a vote of no confidence in the administration headed by Eddie Fenech Adami.

Mr Brincat said both Dr Fenech Adami and his Foreign Minister, Joe Borg, had insisted on the importance of opening these embassies and had also tried to make fun of the criticism by the Labour Party on the matter.

Mr Brincat said the government needed to take into consideration the opposition's suggestion and prepare a comprehensive rationalisation plan on the closure of Maltese embassies abroad.
