The Labour Party's future links in Europe will be discussed next week when a high-level delegation from the Party of European Socialists is to visit Malta.
The talks will focus on the MLP's request for full membership of the European Socialists. Currently, the party has only observer status within this group. The agenda for the talks includes the Labour party's preparations for next year's European Parliament elections.
The delegation will consist of Dutch vice-president of the European Socialists, Jan Marinus Wiersma; Parliamentary Group deputy leader Gary Titley, in charge of EU enlargement issues, and German MEP Barbara Weiler, a member of the European Parliament's Joint Parliamentary Committee on Malta.
The delegation will report to the PES presidency next month before a final decision is taken on the Labour Party's application for membership.
