The Labour Party leadership yesterday met the president and officer group of the Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting was called by the chamber to enable representatives of the business community to discuss matters of national interest related to business.
Chamber president Reginald Fava welcomed Labour leader Alfred Sant and the deputy leaders to the chamber and stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation between entrepreneurs and political leaders.
He said this process must be ongoing for the benefit of the economy and the country in general.
Dr Sant thanked the chamber for its invitation and reciprocated by inviting the chamber officer group to a meeting at the party's headquarters.
He also emphasised the need for regular talks to iron out differences of opinion and develop further matters on which there was agreement.
The meeting then continued in private with both parties discussing the local economic situation, investment, infrastructure, national competitiveness, tourism, Malta Enterprise, education and environmental issues.
