A mobile government strategy aimed at enabling mobility within the public service and making public and national services more accessible through mobile technology will be published by end of 2016, MITA executive chairman Tony Sultana said.

He was speaking during a meeting between the chairman of ICT business section within the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry Francois Grech.

Mr Sultana said local ICT entrepreneurs had a crucial role in the development and implementation of the strategy.

He said that the ultimate objective of the strategy was to shift to mobile technology to keep government ICT services relevant.

The signed co-operation agreement between the governments of Malta and the United Arab Emirates on February 10 was a manifestation of this strategy. This would enable local entrepreneurs develop practical mobile solutions for citizens, businesses and public administration, also in line with the objectives of Digital Malta.

Mr Grech said that the chamber was confident that local ICT companies had the necessary skills to support the government’s vision in developing a ‘mobile first’ approach and accentuated the need for the local industry to continue to invest in its resources to sustain the upcoming strategy.
