Momentum renews call for answers on Ta’ Qali gravel works

Who authorised the decision, and why?

No answers have been forthcoming from the government about the way the  Family Park area in Ta’ Qali was covered with gravel, Momentum said on Tuesday.

More than 20 days had passed since its Freedom of Information request to the Ministry for Transport and Public Works, the party said, and the government has provided no reply, documents or explanation.

Momentum General Secretary Mark Camilleri Gambin said: “This silence is unacceptable. The public deserves to know who authorised the decision to cover Malta top family park with gravel, what studies supported the decision, where the material came from, how much it cost and who made the decision. Transparency is not optional, it is a basic obligation under the Freedom of Information Act.”

“The government’s refusal to respond only strengthens public suspicion that there was no proper environmental reasoning or procurement transparency behind this project,” Camilleri Gambin said.

The party urged the authorities to immediately release the requested information in the public interest.
