Monday morning Gozo ferry trip delayed, passengers briefly stranded at sea

Gozo Channel says issue has been resolved and scheduled trips will continue

The 6.45am Gozo ferry trip to Malta took longer on Monday morning as passengers were stranded at sea following a "technical issue".

Passengers on the MV Gaudos said the lights went out and the ferry stopped some five minutes after leaving the Mġarr harbour. 

They were informed that the vessel was experiencing "technical issues" and were stranded for some 20 minutes. The vessel eventually started slowly steering towards Cirkewwa, but passengers were not given any further updates.

A 25-minute trip took an hour, with the ferry docking after 7.45am, and several passengers scrambling to get to their vehicles or the passenger footbridge to head to their appointment or workplaces.

Gozo Channel told Times of Malta the issue was resolved and trips will continue as scheduled.

The MV Gaudos will continue being in service on Monday.
