Four CCTV cameras have been installed so far to deter dumping at illegal sites, and, in view of their success, more will be installed, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi said in Parliament this evening.

Replying to a question by Labour MP Deborah Schembri, the minister said the cameras proved effective in that illegal dumping where they were located had stopped.

The cameras were installed at Manoel Island, Kalkara in Wied Ghammieq, Zejtun in Triq il-Hotba and Zabbar at Il-Foss.

Local councils have been invited to indicate illegal dumping sites where cameras may be set up. Decisions will then be taken on the basis of costs and viability.
